The Msgr. McClancy M.H.S., East Elmhurst, girls’ varsity basketball team has continued its historic season, with a 62-32 victory over Sacred Heart H.S., Yonkers, N.Y., in the GCHSAA state championship.
Senior guard Taylor Aybar paced the offensive attack with 31 points and also contributed eight steals.
The Lady Crusaders now move on to the state Federation Tournament in Albany, N.Y., starting this weekend.

The GCHSAA held its varsity and junior varsity basketball championships on Feb. 28 at St. John’s Prep, Astoria. The following teams emerged victorious with diocesan titles.
Msgr. McClancy M.H.S., East Elmhurst, took home the varsity Division II championship with a 57-53 win over Bishop Kearney H.S., Bensonhurst. Senior Taylor Aybar led the way with 22 pts., while seniors Kenia Garcia and Gina Hopkins chipped in with 13 and nine pts., respectively.
McClancy’s JV team also won its Division II diocesan crown with a 44-34 win over Fontbonne Hall Academy, Bay Ridge. Gabby Yodice tallied 22 pts. for the Lady Crusaders.
In Division I, Christ the King R.H.S., Middle Village, won diocesan titles on both the varsity and junior varsity levels. The varsity team defeated Bishop Loughlin M.H.S., Fort Greene, and the junior varsity team beat The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates.
