Girls’ High Schools Crown Diocesan Basketball Champs

The GCHSAA basketball season wrapped up with the diocesan, city and state championship games.

On the junior varsity level, St. Joseph’s H.S., Downtown Brooklyn, defeated St. Saviour H.S., Park Slope, for the ‘B’ division diocesan title; Fontbonne Hall Academy, Bay Ridge, emerged victorious over Msgr. McClancy M.H.S., East Elmhurst, in the ‘A’ division Brooklyn/Queens championship; and Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, took home the ‘AA’ division diocesan trophy with a win over Nazareth R.H.S., East Flatbush.

On the varsity level, St. Joseph’s beat Cristo Rey Brooklyn H.S., Flatbush, in the ‘B’ division diocesan championship; Msgr. McClancy bested Fontbonne in the ‘A’ division Brooklyn/Queens championship game; and The Mary Louis Academy (TMLA), Jamaica Estates, took down Christ the King H.S., Middle Village, for the ‘AA’ division diocesan title.

TMLA went on to win the varsity ‘AA’ city championship game over Msgr. Scanlan H.S., the Bronx, and then again beat Msgr. Scanlan in the ‘AA’ state championship title game to advance to the 2017 State Federation Tournament in Glens Falls, N.Y., being played March 24-26.
