Futures, Catholic Foundation Get New Development Director

Nicholas J. Vendikos has been named the director of development for The Catholic Foundation for Brooklyn and Queens and Futures in Education. The appointment was announced by Msgr. Jamie Gigantiello, diocesan vicar for development.

Joseph E. Geoghan, chairman of the board of the Catholic Foundation and Robert Catell, chairman of the board for Futures in Education, in a joint statement said, “Nick’s experience is a perfect fit for the needs of both the Catholic Foundation and Futures in Education. We are very pleased that he has joined us and are confident that he will greatly strengthen the ability of both foundations to carry out their mission of providing support to the Church’s ministries.”

Most recently, Vendikos worked with the Cabrini Mission Foundation (CMF) where he served as president and CEO.

Prior to that, he served for three years as the vice president of development at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Foundation.

Before his career at Kings Point, he was the director of development for five years at his alma mater, Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge. Additionally, he worked for three years in the Office of Institutional Advancement at St. John’s University during the school’s $150 million capital campaign. He started his career as director of development at La Salle Academy on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. He guided La Salle’s successful $2.1 million capital campaign – the largest in the school’s long history.

A native of Brooklyn, he is a founding member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Bernard Council, Mill Basin. In 2012, he was inducted as a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. He also is a member of the boards for Team First, Fontbonne Hall Academy and Midwood Catholic Academy, and serves on the jobs committee for Cristo Rey Brooklyn H.S.

Vendikos received a degree in journalism from St. John’s University. He and his wife, Ismini, have been married for 17 years and are the proud parents of 12-year-old twins, Nicholas and Katerina, who attend Genesis at Xaverian. The Vendikos family resides in Bergen Beach.
