A Mass of Christian burial for Father Paul Landolfi, S.M., was celebrated Nov. 20 in the Darby Auditorium at Chaminade H.S., Mineola, L.I.

He died Nov. 17 from a form of leukemia at Queen of Peace Residence, Queens Village. He was 90.

Born in Brooklyn, he was raised at St. John’s Residence for Boys, conducted by the Marianist Community in Rockaway Park. He attended St. John’s School; Alexander Hamilton H.S., Brooklyn; Mount St. John H.S., Dayton, Ohio.

He entered the Society of Mary (Marianists) and professed first vows on Aug. 20, 1944 in Dayton. He was ordained a priest in Fribourg, Switzerland, on July 17, 1955. He served as a high school teacher in Kentucky, Ohio and Puerto Rico. He was a principal in Pennsylvania, and also was director of the Marianist Center, Chester, Pa.

He was serving at St. John’s Home until the community left in 2012. He was very active in the Rockaway community, often celebrating Mass in the parishes and assisting with sacramental services.

When the Sisters of St. Joseph opened Stella Maris Residence as an independent living for Religious, he celebrated Mass at the convent.

He celebrated his 60th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood in 2015 while residing with the Marianist community at Chaminade H.S., Mineola.

“Paul Landolfi was very committed to the Rockaway cluster and to ecumenical events throughout my years there,” said Father Sean Ogle, former pastor at St. Mary Star of the Sea, Far Rockaway. “He was a superb priest and person.”

Brother Stephen Balletta, S.M., director of the Marianist community at Chaminade, told his staff that Father Landolfi was “a beloved member of our community – an elder statesman, an expert on all things Marian, a kind and compassionate soul, and a true son of Mary.”

Burial was in Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, L.I.
