A Mass of Christian Burial for retired NYPD detective Douglas A. LeVien Jr., was celebrated at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral, Prospect Heights, Aug. 5. He died July 30.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, LeVien spent over 44 years in law enforcement and served as executive assistant to former Brooklyn District Attorney Charles J. Hynes.

LeVien is survived by his wife Barbara; his sons, Douglas III and Vincent, director of external affairs for DeSales Media Group, parent company of The Tablet; and grandchildren, Sophia and Vincent Jr.

Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village.
