Dear Editor: You were right to highlight the upcoming encyclical by Pope Francis on ecology. Patricia Kenney (Readers’ Forum, May 23) notes that “The Vatican has been a leader in the movement to respect the environment.”

Let’s not forget the efforts toward the environment by our Greek Orthodox brethren led by the Patriarch Bartholomew. He has been writing and speaking on this issue for years, prior to the recent statements by Pope Francis.

In the spirit of ecumenism, you would do well to be more aware in The Tablet of what’s going on outside our Church.
