Don’t Equate Killings

Dear Editor: Regarding your editorial “Why This Evil?” (July 16), I find it offensive to equivalently write about the police shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota and the intentional murder of five police officers in Dallas as “unspeakable tragedies.”

The dynamics of these incidents are completely separate and quite different. The police killed an armed man in Minnesota and an armed convicted felon in Louisiana during a violent confrontation.

Furthermore, to suggest that the police shootings were allegedly incidents of racial profiling is completely without merit. The man in Minnesota was stopped due to a moving violation and the man in Louisiana was approached by the police who were responding to a 911 call about the man.

The loss of life is tragic. But these incidents are certainly not equal.
