Deacon Wilfred “Bill” Horne, a retired deacon of St. Ephrem’s parish, Dyker Heights, died Oct. 23 at the age of 93.

He was a World War II veteran who participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy. A former newspaper employee, he was ordained to the diaconate on April 9, 1988.

In addition to his parish duties, he also ministered at the Fort Hamilton Army Base chapel. He retired in 2010.
