Deacon Roy A. Dudley

Deacon Roy A. Dudley, a retired deacon of Sacred Heart of Jesus, Cambria Heights, died June 6 at Long Island Jewish Hospital, New Hyde Park, L.I. He was 87.

He was ordained to the permanent diaconate of the Diocese of Brooklyn on May 5, 1990 by Bishop Thomas V. Daily.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on June 11. Retired Auxiliary Bishop Guy Sansaricq was the main celebrant.

The special concelebrants included Father Hilaire Belizaire, pastor of Sacred Heart; and Fathers Franklin Ezeorah and Michael Gribbon.

“Deacon Roy Dudley was a man of very deep faith. When I first came to the parish he was already sick and I would visit him and got to know what a great man he was,” said Father Belizaire.

“Throughout his time of suffering he never once complained. I would ask how he was feeling and he would always change the subject to what was going on in the parish and what we could do better. His faith gave him tremendous strength and courage.

“He was a man that truly loved God. I mourn him and will truly miss him.”

He is survived by his wife, Relmina and son, Guillaumo.

Burial was in St. Charles/Resurrection Cemetery, Farmingdale.
