Deacon Perfecto Santana, of Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish, Jamaica, died on April 10. He was 68.

Deacon Santana was born in Peralvillo, Yamasá, Dominican Republic, on Dec. 31, 1951.

He and his wife Calista were married for 28 years and they had two daughters and a son.

A substitute Math and Spanish teacher, he was active in his parish as an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist, and a lector, before being ordained to the permanent diaconate by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, on May 23, 2015.
