Deacon Marcus Mordan, a retired deacon from Sacred Heart parish, Cambria Heights, died Aug. 30 at his home in Queens.
Retired Auxiliary Bishop Guy Sansaricq was the main celebrant and homilist of the funeral Mass Sept. 5 at Sacred Heart Church.
Special concelebrants included Fathers Hilaire Belizaire, Franklyn Ezerdan, Joseph Bruno, Jean Miguel Auguste, Jeane Augustin Francois, Bryan Patterson, and Michael Gribbon.
He was ordained a permanent deacon on May 28, 2011.
Bishop Sansaricq, who knew him for more than 40 years, said, “I will miss him. He was involved in everything; whatever the church needed assistance with he was there.
“He started out in the choir and Bible classes. He was one of the founders Haitian Americans United for Progress (HAUP) and worked very hard for the community,” he said.
“He was a very good father and husband and always took care of his family. His wife was in the choir with him and he always made sure to his children knew the importance of the church in their lives. He was an honest, gentle and dedicated man.”
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, and their children, Edwina, Myrlene, and Marcus.
Burial was in Pinelawn Memorial Cemetery, Farmingdale, L.I.
