Deacon John F. McGreevey, of St. John Vianney parish, Flushing, died Feb. 13. He was 88. His wife Columbia McGreevey died Feb. 14.
Ordained May 5, 1990, he was involved in his parish with RCIA, baptisms, visiting the nursing home every week, and assisted at Mass as often as he could.
He retired as a custodian from St. Michael Church in Flushing.
“He was such a loving person. The parishioners always loved him and he always showed his love back to them,” said Father Antonius Ho, C.S.J.B., pastor. “He was available to help with whatever the church needed and he was happy to help. He truly loved to serve God and the church. Before he got sick, he was always active and always wanted to help as many people as he could.”
They are survived by their four children, John Michael, Steven Joseph, Steven Robert and Lisa Ann.
Mass was celebrated for both of them together Feb. 17 at St. John Vianney parish.
