Building Strong Values and Minds
The road to academic success begins at St. Sebastian Catholic Academy. Located in the culturally diverse neighborhood of Woodside, the academy offers a values-centered curriculum and an academically challenging environment where students develop spiritually, intellectually, physically and socially.
St. Sebastian Catholic Academy serves the parishes of Blessed Virgin Mary Help of Christians (St. Mary’s), Queen of Angels, St. Teresa and St. Sebastian.
Students experience a variety of learning experiences including computer technology, art, music, foreign language, physical education/health and library. The school also boasts a newly renovated technology center, as well as WiFi and SMART Boards in all classrooms. All students in grades five through eight are issued an iPad.
To further encourage students to excel, St. Sebastian has a partnership with Msgr. McClancy M.H.S. for advanced classes in algebra and earth science for eligible eighth grade students. Title I services in reading and math are available for students who need additional academic support. SETSS, Speech and OT are also provided.
As an added bonus for working parents, sixth through eighth graders may take part in an innovative and educational after-school experience: Maspeth Town Hall After-School Program. Sponsored by Maspeth Town Hall, this free, on-site program is available weekdays, 3 to 6 p.m.
Pre-K for All is a free program that is available to all students born in 2014. Children have access to an indoor gym and a newly renovated outdoor on-site playspace with state-of-the-art equipment. As part of the program, students also receive a nourishing breakfast and a hot lunch.
For all students in nursery through fifth grade, an extended day program is offered from 3 to 6 p.m. daily. This fee-based program provides a safe haven for students to play and complete homework under the supervision of St. Sebastian staff.
As a testament to St. Sebastian’s academic excellence, the 2017 graduating class collectively earned more than $246,000 in Catholic high school scholarships, and students were accepted to the finest public high schools in New York City.
