Dear Editor: I read Jim Mancari’s sports column every week but his Sept. 9 column about his grandpa was the best. He sounded like a wonderful man.

What’s funny is my father was born in 1922 and also was in Navy Seabees in Guam like his grandpa. He was raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant. When he came home, he met my mother and they were married in 1947 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Windsor Terrace and lived in that area just like Jim’s grandpa.
