Conscientious Distinctions

Dear Editor: While columnist George Weigel makes some legitimate criticisms of the culture and the flaws of the presidential candidates (Oct. 29), he fails to distinguish between the pro-life, pro-marriage, religious freedom positions of the Republican Party and the pro-abortion, pro-homosexual “marriage,” anti-religious freedom positions of the Democratic Party.

This gross obfuscation of the facts is misleading, and can cause further confusion among the Catholic electorate. As the Church teaches, a Catholic cannot, in good conscience, support a candidate who supports the Culture of Death agenda.

The lives of innocent pre-born babies and the spiritual well-being of their mothers and fathers is weighing in the balance. The sanctity of marriage and the practice of religious freedom must be preserved. These non-negotiables cannot be compromised.
