CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CNS) – A newly formed network of pro-life groups in the Charlotte region organized a rally on the sidewalk in front of Planned Parenthood’s Charlotte Health Center to pray for an end to support for the nation’s largest abortion provider.
An estimated 400 people packed the sidewalk, making it the largest pro-life event in western North Carolina that participants said they have seen in recent memory.
The Aug. 14 event attracted Catholic clergy, pro-life leaders, college students and families. Organizers used social media, parish bulletins and email to spread word of the event.
Planned Parenthood has come under fire recently with the release of undercover videos showing physicians and others associated with the organization describing the harvesting of fetal tissue and body parts during abortions at their clinics.
Also discussed are what researchers are charged for the tissue and parts. As of Aug. 19, the California-based Center for Medical Progress had released seven videos, provoking scrutiny from state and federal leaders, and five states have moved to withdraw Medicaid funding from their local Planned Parenthood branches.
