Sister Miriam Thomas Collins, S.C., a member of the Sisters of Charity of N.Y. for 63 years, died March 20 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Yonkers, N.Y. She was 80.
Born in Brooklyn, she attended St. Mary Star of the Sea School, Carroll Gardens, and Bishop McDonnell H.S., Crown Heights.
After teaching in Manhattan and the Bronx for 13 years, she became a community social worker at St. Athansius parish, the Bronx, and an administrator of the Simpson Street Development Association. She retired in 2013.
The Sister Thomas, S.C., Apartments in the Bronx are named in her honor.
She also was known as Sister Trude.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yonkers.
