The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory Wednesday from noon through 8 p.m. Highs in the 90s are expected to persist through at least the weekend.

Here are some tips on how you can stay cool:

  • Drink plenty of liquids – dehydration is a leading cause of heat-related illnesses.
  • Eat regular meals and snacks – this will help to replace the salt and electrolytes lost through sweating.
  • Stay indoors or in a shaded area from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. —  which is usually the hottest part of the day.

If you still need help, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens can help. A number of their senior centers also serve as cooling centers. Click here to find one near you or call them at 718-722-6001.
