St. Ephrem School (SES) celebrates Catholic Schools Week by evidencing this year’s theme: “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.”
The administration, staff and students proudly highlight St. Ephrem School’s ties to the parish and the Dyker Heights community at an Open House on Sunday, Jan. 25 for all interested new families.
Visitors will have an opportunity to meet and speak with the principal, Annamarie Bartone, faculty, staff, students and parents as well as tour the well-maintained school facilities. St. Ephrem School information folders will be given to prospective families to complete applications and register for September, 2015. Visitors can see that a developmentally appropriate curriculum is implemented in the early childhood program (nursery, pre- kindergarten and kindergarten). Grades one through five are self-contained and grades six, seven and eight are departmental.
SES maintains a new computer lab with an extensive software collection, SMART Boards and two libraries – primary/junior high school. Students consistently perform well on state and diocesan standardized tests and are recipients of Catholic high school scholarships.
Also open to visitors is the Common Core Writers Workshop and Enrichment Program where students can extend and enhance English lan- guage arts, social studies and science courses of study. Math skills are sharpened by using REFLEX Math, a computer-based program designed to increase fluency in math computation skills. Interested families will see students’ projects in preparation for the winter art show and upcoming science fair.
The Catholic identity is evident to all. It is felt, lived and shared through Gospel values and a solid curriculum. Tucked among classrooms is an oasis of peace, prayer, psalms, song and liturgical movement: The Potters Room. In this Spirit-filled atmosphere, students encounter God’s peace and love.
Catholic Schools Week 2015 is beautifully celebrated as the entire school community validates the presence of the IHM Sisters/parish priests/deacons, the loyalty of our school parents, the commitment of teachers, the munificence of community workers and the conscientious students.
