At the annual Lenten Penance Service at St. Dominic Church, Bensonhurst, young people acted out how Jesus defeats the world’s efforts to reduce people to instruments. The message was that He is there to help people get over life’s temptations.

Fontbonne Excels at Stanford Speech Contest
Members of the speech team at Fontbonne Hall Academy, Bay Ridge, placed ninth overall at the Stanford University Invitational Tournament early this year. Over 200 schools and 2,000 students from around the country competed in the tournament.

Frassati Vocation Group
Cathedral Preparatory School and Seminary, Elmhurst, has a group where young men meet to speak about the call to the priesthood. The Vocation/Discernment group is named after Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, who is known as “a man of the beatitudes.”

The hardest part of my day is waking up. It takes a whole army to get me out of bed since I barely get enough sleep throughout the weekday because of school work and extracurricular activities.

Holy Cross Student Wins Science Award
Nicholas Simone, junior at Holy Cross H.S. in Flushing, won first place in the 21st annual Research Poster Session for High School Students sponsored by the Chemical Education Committee of the American Chemical Society’s New York Section.
St. Edmund Goes to DC
Recently the St. Edmund Prep Model Congress Team traveled to Washington D.C. to compete in Princeton Model Congress. The eight students assumed their roles as Representatives and Senators and fought for the bills they drafted weeks before the competition.
