Al O’Hagan Community Leadership Award

Ed Wilkinson is receiving the Al O’Hagan Community Leadership Award. Wilkinson has been the editor of The Tablet, Brooklyn’s diocesan newspaper, since June of 1985. He recently completed his 48th year as a member of The Tablet staff.

O’Hagan Connection Carries On

The Round Tower Award

Thomas Phelan, a NYC ferry captain who saved hundreds of lives on Sept. 11, 2001, and then became an FDNY firefighter, died in March from cancer linked to toxic fumes caused by the terrorist attacks.

Paul O’Dwyer Memorial Award

Eileen Flannelly Mackell is receiving the Paul O’Dwyer Memorial Award. She is the vice president of the Central Royalty Container Collection Fund of the International Longshoremen’s Association and the U.S. Maritime Alliance.

St. Bridget Award

Sister Kathleen McKinney, C.S.J., who has been a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, for more than 50 years, and has dedicated her life to education, is receiving the St. Bridget Award.

Father Mychael Judge, O.F.M., Memorial Award

Brother Leonard Conway, O.S.F., a member of the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn for more than 50 years, and the president of St. Francis Preparatory School in Fresh Meadows, is receiving the Father Mychael Judge, O.F.M., Memorial Award.

Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Memorial Award

Msgr. Joseph P. Nagle, a priest of the Brooklyn Diocese for 47 years, is receiving the Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Memorial Award. He was a friend of the late auxiliary bishop, and the homilist at his funeral Mass.

Police Officer Edward Byrne Memorial Award

NYPD Detective Patrick Donohue of the Detectives Endowment Association and a 21-year veteran of the New York City Police Department, is receiving the Police Officer Edward Byrne Memorial Award.

Captain Timothy Stackpole Memorial Award

FDNY Battalion Chief Joseph Duggan, who attributes much of his success in life to his Catholic education, is receiving the Captain Timothy Stackpole Memorial Award.

The Celtic Cross Award

Margaret Minson, Ed.D., who has spent more than 25 years in education, is receiving The Celtic Cross Award. Dr. Minson is the head of school at Bishop Kearney H.S., an all-girls Roman Catholic high school in Bensonhurst. She has served in the school’s leadership since 2014.
