Mother Teresa Statue Is Gift from Albanians
Pride rushed through the hearts and veins of Albanian Americans as they watched Albanian President Bujar Nishani unveil a statue of St. Teresa of Calcutta at St. Athanasius parish, Bensonhurst, Sept. 25.
Padre Pio Observance in Howard Beach
St. Helen’s parish, Howard Beach, conducted a triduum in honor of St. Padre Pio. On the final evening, parishioners gathered for Mass, a procession and the chance to venerate a relic of the saint.

Last Mercy Day Celebrated At Angel Guardian Campus
Sisters of Mercy held their annual Mercy Day festivities on Sept. 24, the feast of Our Lady of Mercy. This year’s observance at MercyFirst in Bensonhurst on the eve of the feast was especially meaningful as it was probably the last Mercy Day celebration at the agency’s 117-year-old Angel Guardian Campus.
Corona’s Ecuadorians Venerate Virgin of Cisne
As part of a week-long veneration in honor of the Virgin of Cisne, Ecuadorians from St. Leo’s parish, Corona, organized a series of novenas and a cultural celebration from Sept. 16 to 25. Members of the parish gathered each night to pray before the image of the Virgin, which was brought from the basilica in El Cisne in the southern province of Loja, Ecuador.
