Park Slope Church’s Virgin Statue Damaged in Possible Hate Crime

The statue was stolen from St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Park Slope on Wednesday, Feb. 20. Surveillance video showed an unidentified man wearing a hoodie sweatshirt walk into the church, pick up the statue and simply walk out. Not realizing at first that it had been stolen, church employees and Father Willy Kingsley Ndi, parish administrator, began to search for it. Eventually, it was found in the trash can across the street.

Five Officially Join Ranks as Priests of Brooklyn Diocese

Fathers Sebastian Tarciziu Andro, Raynolds Basilious, O.C.D., Timothy John Lambert, Jose Evangelista Lopez and Felix Sanchez joined the ranks of the Brooklyn Diocese and were no longer members of their previous dioceses by the process of incardination.

Flatbush Parish Hosts National Haitian Youth Rally

Energetic youth from across the eastern seaboard gathered at Our Lady of Refuge in Flatbush Feb. 23 to participate in the annual Youth Rally sponsored by The National Center of the Haitian Apostolate and The Brooklyn Haitian Ministry. The 2019 theme was “Lead and Be Fruitful.”

St. Matthias Catholic Academy Hosts First NYC Hydroponics Lab

Using a ribbon created from freshly grown rosemary, St. Matthias Catholic Academy (SMCA), Ridgewood, recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil its NY Sun Works Hydroponic STEM Lab. It is the first Catholic elementary school in New York City to build a hydroponics lab.
