Since 1948, the Congrega Maria SS. Addolorata has been honoring the Blessed Mother on the Sunday before the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, Sept. 15, with a street procession and Mass at Sacred Hearts-St. Stephen Church, Carroll Gardens. Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio was the main celebrant of the evening Mass on Sunday, Sept. 9. Earlier in the day, Msgr. Guy Massie, pastor, led the march through the neighborhood. Fireworks greeted the statue of Our Lady as it was returned to the church for the liturgy. Our Lady of Sorrows is the patroness of Mola di Bari, Italy, from which many of the residents of Carroll Gardens immigrated to America.
