Capt. Timothy Stackpole Award 2016

Presented in memory of FDNY Captain Timothy Stackpole, who was an inspiration to his fellow firefighters when he returned to active duty after a long and painful recovery from third-degree burns that he suffered in the line of duty. After that return to duty, Capt. Stackpole was one of the 343 fallen Bravest on Sept. 11, 2001.

Retired Firefighter Danny Prince, who served in the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) for 36 years, is receiving the Captain Timothy Stackpole Memorial Award.

In 1973, he joined the FDNY and was assigned to Ladder 156 in Midwood, where he served 23 years. He was later assigned to Safety Battalion 2, and then Safety Battalion 1 from which he retired.

When he was appointed a NYC firefighter, he realized his new occupation was more than a job; it is a lifestyle, which he fell right into and continues to love in retirement. He is known for his dedication and commitment to the FDNY and to all firefighters.

Currently, he holds positions and affiliations with the N.Y.S. Knights of Columbus, Div. 12, and the FDNY Holy Name Society of Brooklyn and Queens. He also serves on the board of directors for both the N.Y. Firefighter Burn Center Foundation, and Friends of Firefighters.

He is a member of the FDNY Emerald Society, the FDNY Columbia Society and the Anchor Club, and the Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance.

He is proud to be involved with the Wounded Warriors Foundation and Hope for Warriors Foundation. He is a familiar face when firefighters and their families need transportation. He serves on the board of directors of the FDNY Fire Family Transport Foundation, which assists families of firefighters in times of need, and in transporting firefighters, family members and department personnel to and from medical institutions both for care and family support.

Prior to joining the FDNY, Prince served in the U.S. Navy in 1967, and then the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves. He retired as a chief petty officer with Coast Guard Port Security. He served a total of 39 years with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard.

He feels blessed to have a wonderful wife; two children, Daniel and Heather and five grandchildren.
