St. Anastasia parish, Douglaston, will be hosting “Called and Chosen,” a Veterans’ Day vocation event at noon on Monday, Nov. 12 about the life of Servant of God and Medal of Honor recipient Father Vincent R. Capodanno.
In 2017, the Archdiocese for the Military Services announced that the United States Military might soon have a patron saint in Lieut. Father Capodanno.
The parish has invited a special guest, George Philips, who served with Father Capodanno in Vietnam and was present on the day that he died. He will share his personal experience of Father Capodanno and why he should be named a saint for the Catholic Church and for all veterans.
There also will be a viewing of a 90-minute film titled, “Called and Chosen,” about the life of this virtuous priest from his early childhood in New York to the ultimate sacrifice of giving his life on the battlefield in Vietnam on Sept. 4, 1967.
