Brother Julian

Brother Julian Przytulski, S.C., a member of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart for 77 years, died July 6 at Ozanam Hall Nursing Facility, Bayside. He was 96.

He entered the community in Metuchen, N.J., in 1937 from Sacred Heart parish, New Britain, Conn. He pronounced his first vows on Aug. 15, 1941 and his perpetual vows in 1947.

Formerly known as Brother Sigmund, he earned a bachelor of science degree from Spring Hill College, Ala., in 1952, and later  attended institutes of spirituality and theology through the years.

He held teaching licenses in Mississippi, Louisiana and New York, and taught in Brothers’ high schools in Oklahoma and Louisiana.

Locally, he taught mathematics at Msgr. McClancy M.H.S., East Elmhurst, 1957-76, and then served as school treasurer, 1976-86.

In 1986, he became financial assistant to the provincial of the New York Province. He served as financial assistant to four provincials until his retirement in 2012.
