Brother Becket Ryan, O.S.F., 91, a member of the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn for 63 years, died Oct. 16.
Born in Barberton, Ohio, he entered the Franciscan Brothers in 1955 from St. Augustine parish in Washington, D.C.
He served as attendance officer at St. Francis Prep, Brooklyn, 1957-62; taught in the parish school at St. Joseph, Babylon, L.I., 1962-66; and taught at St. Francis Prep, 1966-67.
He served as principal of St. Francis Xavier School, Park Slope, 1967-70, before returning to St. Francis Prep in 1970 as a teacher and alumni director until 1988.
From 1988 until his retirement from active ministry in 2005, Brother Becket also served as an advocate for the elderly at St. Charles Borromeo parish in Brooklyn Heights.
He spent most of his retirement in residence at Our Lady of Angels Friary, Bay Ridge.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of Angels Church Oct. 20.
Burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn.
