Brooklyn Schools Win with Cheers

Two local high school cheerleading squads showed off their school spirit by taking home their respective cheer championship titles.

Cheerleaders and coaches from Fontbonne Hall Academy, Bay Ridge, and Bishop Kearney H.S., Bensonhurst, demonstrated their sportsmanship and athletic ability by winning regional competitions.

The Fontbonne cheerleaders, coached by Katie Volpe and Jen Bitetto, captured the first-place trophy at the recent Catholic High School Athletic Association competition for a record-breaking 11th year in a row. The junior varsity cheerleaders, under the direction of  Jillian and Janine Fraumeni, also won first place for the eighth time in the last 11 years.

The Bishop Kearney cheerleaders demonstrated their “Tiger Pride” at both Shore Showdown and Beast of the East competitions in Wildwood, N.J. They executed a fun, spirited and dynamic routine, ultimately taking home the first place trophy as well as grand champion for their division. The girls, led by coaches Krystina Macca and Victoria Viviani, as well as captains Jacklyn Terranova, Catherine Tucci and Dana Levechia, danced, cheered and stunted their way to victory.
