For the third year in a row, St. Peter Claver Church, a worship site of St. Martin de Porres parish, Bedford-Stuyvesant, hosted its blessing of the animals service in the church parking lot. Parishioners and neighbors alike brought their family pets to be blessed by Father Daniel Kingsley, parochial vicar. Bentley was brought by his owners to receive a blessing for his cancer. Claver the dog, named after the parish patron, received a blessing, as did fish and turtles. After a lively prayer service that included music and singing not only by music minister Joseph Murray, but also by the furry guests, all the animals were blessed with holy water. Giveaways were provided by Unleashed Petco and Whose your Doggy? pet stores in Brooklyn.
