In honor of Black History Month, events and observances have been scheduled in the diocese and around the city. Here are some events coming up in the week ahead:
– Our Lady of the Presentation-Our Lady of Mercy, Brownsville, is hosting its annual African Heritage Month Film Festival. The next two dates are: “42,” Feb. 24 and “Nothing Without God,” March 3. Call 718-345-2604.
– St. Clare Church in Rosedale, will have its Black History Month Mass on Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. The main celebrant and homilist will be Father Alonzo Cox, pastor of St. Martin de Porres parish, Bedford-Stuyvesant, and the diocesan coordinator of ministry to African-American Catholics. – “Jackie Robinson: The Faith Behind the Legend,” will be held Feb. 27, 7:30 p.m. at The Sheen Center, Greenwich Village. Fox News correspondent Ed Henry will discuss his new book, “42 Faith: The Rest of the Jackie Robinson Story,” which reveals Robinson’s backstory of faith, with Fox News’ Juan Williams.
