Bishop Joseph Sullivan Will Be Remembered at Scouting Dinner

The annual Bishop’s Dinner for Scouting, conducted by the Diocese’s Catholic Committee on Scouting, will pay special tribute to the late Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan, who served as chaplain to the Catholic Committee for Scouting. The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in El Caribe Country Club in Mill Basin.

Bishop Sullivan, former Vicar for Charities, died in July after suffering severe injuries in a car accident on the Long Island Expressway in Nassau County.

The Bishop’s Good Scout Award will be posthumously presented to Bishop Sullivan.

Dr. Thomas Chadzutko, Diocesan Superintendent of Schools, also will be honored with the Good Scout Award.

The Catholic Scouting Committee also has announced that the following awards also will be handed out:

Chairman’s Award to Msgr. Jamie Gigantiello, pastor of St. Bernard’s, Mill Basin.

The Ann Mannix Memorial Lifetime Achievement Ward – Father Dennis Farrell, pastor of Resurrection, Gerritsen Beach.

St. Anne Award – Margaret Chance, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Ridgewood.

St. George Awards – Father Robert Adamo, pastor, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Windsor Terrace, and Paul Stantoj, B.S.A. Council member-at-large.

Bronze Pelican Awards – Father Christopher Piasta, administrator, Our Lady of the Skies, Kennedy Airport; Juan J. Ferraro, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Sunset Park; Sister Rose Torma, C.S.J., principal, St. Stanislaus Kostka, Maspeth; Father Paul Wood, pastor, St. Stanislaus-Transfiguration, Maspeth; Gene Hart, Our Lady of Angels, Bay Ridge; Glenn J. Malysz, G.N.Y.S. Council member-at-large; and John DiMarco, St. Athanasius, Bensonhurst.
