Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio made his third “apostolic visit” to Buffalo, N.Y., to conclude his fact-finding mission in the Diocese of Buffalo, where Bishop Richard Malone faces accusations of covering up sexual abuse of minors by priests.
The Brooklyn bishop spent a total of seven days on his mission, which was requested by the Holy See in early October.
Bishop DiMarzio interviewed close to 80 individuals from the Diocese of Buffalo, including both clergy and laypeople. He met with senior priests and territorial vicars as well as with college presidents and members of Movement to Restore Trust, an organization formed by laypeople in the diocese in the wake of the public disclosure of clergy sexual abuse.
The next step is for Bishop DiMarzio to send a report to the Holy See.
