St. Peter Catholic Academy serves five parishes in the Bensonhurst/Bath Beach section of Brooklyn – St. Dominic, St. Finbar, St. Frances Cabrini, Most Precious Blood and St. Mary, Mother of Jesus. St. Peter, the “rock” upon whom Christ built His church, stands as a figure of authority and faith.
St. Peter Catholic Academy encourages its students to succeed to their highest cognitive level in order to meet the challenges of life in the 21st century. As the only Catholic elementary school in the area, it strives to help its students grow academically, socially, emotionally and, most important of all, spiritually.
Known for its family atmosphere, St. Peter Catholic Academy considers character building of prime importance. The academy aspires to academic excellence while offering a challenging curriculum to all its students and expecting them to do their best. Classrooms are equipped with SMART Boards to enable teachers to incorporate technology into their lessons. The school also has a fully functioning science lab where students work with hands-on activities. The state-of-the-art computer lab features 26 Apple iMac computers, 24 iPad2s, and an interactive SMART Board.
An honors program is available for middle school students in the sixth to eighth grades as an incentive to students to achieve academic excellence. Two years ago, a Junior Aquinas Program was added for honors students in the fourth and fifth grades.
The academy follows the New York State curriculum and has been Middle States accredited. Faculty members are encouraged to take every opportunity for professional development to keep them abreast of the latest curriculum requirements. A learning center is available to assist students who are not eligible for Title I services in math, literacy and ESL.
Students’ spiritual enrichment is augmented through prayer services and seasonal liturgies. Students engage in community service activities such as a Thanksgiving food drive and Christmas gift drive, among other projects. Physical education and sports programs are offered for all ages.
The academy recognizes that parents and teachers share the responsibility of education and strives to create a supportive environment with open lines of communication among school administrators, faculty, parents and students.
