Established in September, 2011, Salve Regina Catholic Academy, which serves nursery school through eighth-grade students, is a co-educational Catholic grammar school in East New York. With the guidance of the Lord, the school has blossomed and grown into a strong community of students, educators and active, involved parents.

Salve Regina Catholic Academy is one of the largest schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn with around 600 students. Its main focus is providing a Catholic, faith-based education to as many students as it can, regardless of their ability to pay, in an effort to afford parents who want their children to have a Catholic education the opportunity to provide one, said Roxanna Elder, principal.

The mission of the school is to ensure that each child in its care has a high-quality education in a loving, caring and structured environment incorporating God’s influence with the learning experience. With this in mind, Salve Regina stresses the total development of each child – emotionally, physically, socially, intellectually and, most important, spiritually – to instill self-confidence and ensure all of its students are up to meeting the challenges of the 21st century.

Salve Regina Catholic Academy adheres to the Common Core State Curriculum approved by New York State and the Diocese of Brooklyn. It offers a supervised program starting at 7 a.m., as well as a breakfast program starting at 7:30 a.m. At lunchtime, students can choose a hot or cold lunch from the cafeteria, which is operated by the Office of School Food and Nutrition. After school, Salve Regina provides an extended hours program until 6 p.m. that offers homework assistance, supervised play and various clubs, such as Spanish, choir, drama, robotics, Cub Scouts and Girls Scouts, at a low cost to working parents.

Salve Regina offers extensive services for students requiring remediation and supplemental instruction. The academy has accommodated students with special educational needs with resource room services, tutoring, occupational therapy and speech therapy. The academy also has Title I reading, math, ESL and guidance programs and offers summer school for grades K-8.

The academy is aligned with the parishes of St. Rita, St. Michael/St. Malachy, St. Fortunata, St. Sylvester, Our Lady of the Presentation/Our Lady of Mercy and Mary, Mother of the Church.
