Back to School 2014 – Everybody is Celebrated at Resurrection Ascension

This year, Resurrection Ascension School is celebrating 75 years of bringing quality Catholic education to the children of Rego Park and Middle Village. Opened in 1939 by the Sisters of Charity, the school served a changing and growing population. Today, students represent over 50 different countries throughout the world.

Resurrection Ascension students learn to embrace diversity while celebrating what unites them – their Catholic faith. The school truly represents the slogan: “Many Faces…One Faith.”

Resurrection Ascension School teaches students from nursery through grade eight. The nursery and pre-K children have a choice of half- or full-day programs.

Every classroom is equipped with SMART Boards, and all students have access to the computer lab and two laptop carts. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building. All students receive art, music, library, computer and physical education weekly. Spanish is taught to students in grades four through eight.

Working parents can take advantage of the before-school and after-school programs, which provide children a safe and nurturing environment in which to complete homework, play and socialize with their classmates. Enrichment programs such as Lego Robotics, Bakers and Shakers, Mad Science classes and golf lessons are also offered.

Students in grades four, six and eight participate in the Stages on the Sound Arts program, which teaches film-making, script writing and acting. Third-grade students have a 10-week violin program taught by an artist from Midori and Friends. Ballroom dancing is offered in a 20-class program for fourth- and fifth-grade students, culminating in a performance for classmates and parents.

Seventh and eighth graders who are academically gifted may create a project as part of the Aquinas Program, which is a yearlong investigation that is then presented to other educators and students from the diocese.

The active Home School Association provides events such as the Welcome Back BBQ and Family Bingo Night that add to the sense of community felt among school families.

Resurrection Ascension School is truly a place “where everybody is somebody.”
