Back to School 2014 – OLBS Promotes a Lifetime of Learning

Making the decision to send a child to a Catholic School is a very important decision.

The mission of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament School, Bayside, is to establish a learning environment where students are inspired to be lifelong learners, to embrace Catholic values, to be active members of the community and the Church and to obtain the necessary skills for future leadership.

Academic programs provide a quality Catholic education through the implementation of diocesan and Common Core curriculum in an environment that challenges and encourages students to work to their full potential. Many students receive scholarships to the local Catholic high schools. The Class of 2014 received approximately $475,000 in scholarships. Currently, alumni of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament are attending West Point, Harvard, Yale, Georgetown, Vanderbilt and UPenn, to name a few.

Technology is very important to learning at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament School. There are interactive whiteboards in every homeroom, classroom and music room. There is an updated computer laboratory with 30 computers, an iPad program and a laptop lab coming in the fall of 2014. Internet (with CIPA compliant filtering) is accessible throughout the building.

The school believes that a strong relationship between home and school is essential. This is accomplished through an active Home School Association and open communication between parents and teachers, which has been enhanced by the opening of a “Parent Portal” last school year.

Programs include: nursery school through eighth grade, extended day programs in the morning (from 7:15 a.m.) and afternoon (until 6 p.m.), a comprehensive music program including a string orchestra and choirs, a “Music Together” preschool program, art program and foreign language instruction.

A dedicated faculty, with advanced degrees and certification, provide a warm, safe environment. A school counselor is also on staff.

For students, a number of activities are offered, including Student Council, service opportunities, clubs, yearbook staff, educational and cultural trips, scholarship opportunities, teen club, choral groups and an active Catholic Youth Organization sports program in basketball, baseball, softball, swimming, track and soccer.
