Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Academy, located on Kessel Street in Forest Hills, seeks to provide a quality Catholic education for children, nursery to eighth grade, and nurtures the whole child through programs encompassing the spiritual, intellectual, social, psychological and physical development of its students.
Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Academy is fully accredited by the Diocese of Brooklyn, the State of New York and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Through its religious education program, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Academy aims to develop a well-rounded Christian personality to its students, which is reflected in respect toward self and others as exemplified by Jesus in the Gospels.
The staff at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Academy, in cooperation with the families of its students, works to assist children in developing a system by which to judge the use of values and skills. In this way, students will learn to be responsible and accountable.
The mission of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Academy flows from the Church’s participation in the mission of Jesus. As a hope-filled community, the school is committed to providing academic excellence integrated with a vision of life and learning centered in the Person and Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Students participate in a full academic program, which includes six specialty subjects: library, technology, art, music, enrichment and physical education. Children learn Spanish as a foreign language. Reading comprehension is a cornerstone of an Our Lady of Mercy education. Children in pre-K to second grade participate in the Super Kids reading program where they receive phonics instruction and build a strong foundation for language comprehension.
Third through sixth grades participate in Voices, and students in grades seven and eight continue to sharpen their reading skills by participating in the Prentice Hall Literature program. Math, science and social studies are equally as important as religious education. Students in all grade levels participate in the “Religion: Blest are We” program provided by the school.
The school day starts at 8 a.m., though the school provides extended care through its before-school and after-school programs.
