Back to School 2014: Facts on Catholic Education in Brooklyn and Queens

There are 87 elementary academies and schools within the diocese:
• 42 Catholic academies
• 42 parish schools
• Three religious congregational or private institutions.

90 percent of elementary academies and schools offer Pre-K-4.

83 percent of elementary academies and schools offer Pre-K-3.

37 percent of elementary academies and schools offer programs for toddlers.

22 academies and schools offer Universal Pre-K.

For the 2013-2014 academic year, $7.853 million in scholarships was awarded to 5,922 elementary students within the diocese.

ELA results on New York State Tests in Catholic academies and schools consistently outpaced New York State and City schools.

71 percent of the 2014 eighth-grade graduates went on to Catholic high schools, other private high schools and specialized public high schools. The remainder will attend public high schools.

Over $13.7 million in high school scholarships was offered to graduating eighth graders.

20 young men from within the diocese will attend Regis H.S. this year, a tuition-free Jesuit college preparatory school.

Nationally, 99.4 percent of Catholic school students graduate high school, compared to 75.5 percent of public school students.
