I cannot guess how many hours I have delayed before writing this week’s column. Actually it has been not only a matter of hours but a matter of days. Three or four times I sat down to start the column but gave up rather quickly.

Back to School: The Catholic Way

This week’s edition of The Tablet celebrates the reopening of the Diocese of Brooklyn’s schools and Catholic academies. As the children return to school, we are seeing a renaissance in Catholic education, from growing enrollment numbers compared to pre-pandemic rosters to enhanced curriculum in many of the Catholic high schools within the diocese.

Bush Says Reauthorizing PEPFAR is Pro-Life, Saving Millions from HIV/AIDS

Former President George W. Bush in an opinion piece for The Washington Post published Sept. 13 made his case for the reauthorization of PEPFAR, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, calling that program pro-life — despite claims to the contrary from some pro-life advocates who have expressed concern some of the program’s funds could be diverted to pay for abortions.
