Wearing scrubs en route to the hospital to begin her day, a health care specialist was asked how much she knew about Caitlin Clark, the University of Iowa basketball superstar who has led her Hawkeye teammates — and by extension, all of “Hawkeye Nation” — to almost unprecedented acclaim in women’s basketball. Not akin to assessing athletes and their acumen, she quickly and succinctly summarized Clark’s entrenchment in women’s basketball.

There’s little doubt that in classrooms in Catholic schools around the Diocese of Brooklyn, the historic solar eclipse was still a topic of conversation on Tuesday, April 9. Like New Yorkers all over the city, local school children donned their special glasses and turned their eyes to the skies for the near-total eclipse Monday afternoon.

SUNY Downstate Medical Center Must Stay Open

Last month, I wrote to Gov. Kathy Hochul to share my concerns regarding the pending closure of SUNY Downstate Medical Center. As of this writing, New York State budget negotiations continue, and I am hopeful that the final agreement will keep this university hospital, based in Central Brooklyn, open to provide continued care.
