Pope Francis’ call for human fraternity is not just idle talk, as we are used to hearing from the leaders in the Arab world, but rather a comprehensive approach that includes dialogue with and working for the millions of poor and needy in the region, which is rippling with political and economic turmoil.

The Holy Father established Sunday of the Word of God, which is celebrated on the third Sunday in Ordinary Time — this year on Jan. 22 — as we read in the Apostolic Letter announced on Sept. 30, 2019, in the form of motu proprio “Aperuit Illis.”

Celebrating the Saints of Journalism

As another spring semester starts, I can again tell my journalism students at St. John’s University about the patron saint of writers and journalists, St. Francis de Sales, whose feast day was Jan. 24. But this year I also get to discuss a saint who has received support to be a new paradigm for the fourth estate.
