Atonement Father Madison Served Faithful in Bed-Stuy

Father Martin A. Madison, S.A., a Franciscan Friar of the Atonement, Graymoor, Garrison, N.Y., for 65 years, died Oct. 4.

Locally, he served as associate pastor at Our Lady of Victory Church, Bedford-Stuyvesant, 1994-2007.

“I’m going to miss the guy,” said Brother John O’Hara, S.A., who served for four years at Our Lady of Victory with Fathers Madison and Martin Carter, S.A.

It was Brother John’s first assignment in Brooklyn and Father Madison helped make him feel at home there.

“He was a gentle person. He was thoughtful and kind. He was very welcoming to me,” Brother John said.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Graymoor, Oct. 15. Burial was in the friars’ cemetery.
