Anton Dietrich, 99, the oldest living alumnus of Holy Child Jesus School, Richmond Hill, died Feb. 16. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Cenacle Church, Richmond Hill.

A native of Richmond Hill, he was a livelong resident. A U.S. Army veteran, who saw action in World War II, he participated in several critical battles of the conflict and was wounded several times. One time after his ship was torpedoed by a German submarine, he floated for 16 hours in the Mediterranean Sea before being rescued by British troops.

Burial was in Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island.
