An International Baccalaureate School with Gospel Values

St. Edmund Preparatory High School is a Roman Catholic college preparatory school for young men and women.

The mission of the Sheepshead Bay school is to instill the Gospel values in students so as to empower them to become confident, self-disciplined, active participants in society.

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, the goal is to provide a high quality education that encourages the development of skills to live and work with others globally. Students who have been awarded the IB Diploma have earned as many as 36 college credits.

The program has 32 Full IB Diploma candidates and has joined forces with the NYC Food Bank where students will be fulfilling the Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS) component of IB.

St. Edmund Preparatory offers a rigorous curriculum designed to meet the needs of all its students. Advanced Placement courses and through a partnership with St. John’s University, college level courses, STEM/STEAM, robotics, a fine arts curriculum that includes dance and band, and the offering of Chinese Mandarin as a foreign language are examples of the broad and challenging academics.

An International Scholars Honors Program, a college exploration program, an internship program, a teaching program, a summer outreach program and the Harvard’s Model Congress allow students to experience life outside of the Prep.

Students embrace the call to service as they serve the homeless in Philadelphia, cook and serve a Thanksgiving meal to those less fortunate in N.Y., donate to award winning school blood drives, and participate in collections such as socks, toys, blankets and coats.

In addition to prayer services and liturgies, the Emmaus and Cleopas Retreat Programs give students an opportunity to explore their relationship with God.

The Prep has classes before school including architecture, band, Christian service and high school courses for eighth-grade students.

After school activities include sports, clubs and a leadership program and a volleyball clinic for junior high school students.

The school has three state-of-the-art science labs, two technology labs, SMART board technology and a Bring Your Own Device Program for students.

The Library Media and Fine Arts Center houses a technology lab, a contemporary band room, an art studio, weight training room and a dance studio.

International Exchange and Travel

The International Exchange Program with St. Edmund Girls’ School and Wyvern College in Salisbury, England, and St. Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School in Brisbane, Australia, as well as the International Travel Study Program, encourage students to experience a new culture and foster new friendships.

In addition to a complete varsity athletic program, the Prep has added, Crew, a competitive rowing team. The school offers over 50 clubs and activities including art, technology, STEM robotics, the Euro Challenge, the investment in stocks club, dramatic/musical performances, and, award winning, Literary Magazine and Yearbook.

New This Year

This year there have many exciting expansions and additions at the Prep. The award winning robotics team has expanded to a competitive FTC team and has been integrated into the science department.

St. Edmund Prep’s STEM program has expanded and has become STEAM to include the Arts. The music department has added an Introduction to Strings Class, which includes the violin, viola, cello and double bass.

St. Edmund Prep is in the process of applying to be a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. Also, bus service will be available starting September 2016 in the Howard Beach, Broad Channel, and the Rockaways to the gate of Breezy Point areas.
