Academic Excellence

The school year may be just beginning, but students in Catholic high schools throughout the diocese are already excelling.

Brother Leonard Conway, O.S.F., principal of St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows, stands proudly with Rachel Rho, Marina Recio, Sean C. Ennis, Daniel Graham, Aakaash Varma and Catherine Vallone.

Brittany Lewis, a senior at Bishop Ford H.S., Park Slope, won the 2011 Brooklyn ReAct Lit Match. This writing contest was held in conjunction with the annual Brooklyn Book Festival. Lewis’ submission will be included in an anthology professionally published by Atashic Books, an award-winning independent publisher based in Brooklyn.

In Queens, Samantha Parente,  Marina Recio, and Michelle Valentin from St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows, have been selected as 2011-2012 National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) Scholars.

The The NHRP is recognizing nearly 5,000 students selected from a pool of over 235,000 who took the 2010 PSAT, NMSQ, or PAA and identified themselves as Hispanic/ Latino.

St. Francis Prep students Dragana Bozic, Sean C. Ennis, Daniel J. Graham, Rachel Rho, Catherine Vallone and Aakaash Varma recieved the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.
