Why any reasonable person would watch Michelle Wolf’s Netflix “comedy” series, The Break with Michelle Wolf, is debatable. The one-time writer for The Daily Show and Late Night with Seth Meyers, in a skit on her eponymous show, celebrated abortion, shouting, while dressed in a red, white, and blue jumpsuit – “God Bless Abortion!” and stating abortion “should be on the dollar menu at McDonald’s.”
Heather Wilhelm in her National Review article, “The Rise of the Abortion Cheerleaders,” (July 13), offers a fine analysis of the thinking of many in the U.S. on abortion.
She notes that the days of many pro-choice people believing abortion to be necessary, if “safe, legal, and rare,” is long over. By normalizing the experience of abortion, by downplaying it, it becomes just one more medical procedure, and thus, is considered not a big deal. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Medical science proves, with all the advancements made since the introduction of the sonogram in 1976 to the present day, that, beyond a shadow of a doubt, life begins at conception.
Don’t normalize abortion. It is always a sad, tragic event that affects the mother, father, unborn child, and indeed, society in general. It is never to be considered “no big deal,” and it should certainly not be the subject of a comedy routine that celebrates abortion.
