2016 will forever be known as the year that the media got it wrong. The arrogance of those “opinion makers” was proven again and again through the year.
It can be argued that most Americans believe that abortion is murder, plain and simple. It is apparent that abortion is something that the vast majority of Americans oppose.
No person in his or her right mind believes that abortion is a positive thing. Abortion destroys the life of an innocent child and hurts the mother of that child. The recent comments by actress Lena Dunham from a podcast in December proved how out of touch so many in the mainstream media are with the rest of the world. Dunham, in a rather twisted and demented way, attempted to defend the dignity and rights of those women who have had abortions, and stated that she regretted never having an abortion, so she could understand what these women went through. Having an abortion is not a right of passage into womanhood; it is not a step toward becoming an adult; it is an absolute tragedy and should never be spoken about snidely, as did this “star” of a mixed-reviewed HBO series.
Even the most hardened abortion “rights” advocate found her comments to be offensive, irrational and completely, utterly insensitive. Dunham represents a so-called “elite” who believe truly that they know better than the rest of the civilized society, that she knows more than natural law, and common sense.
Let’s hope that 2017 will be the year that we as the American people let our voices be heard: that every life matters, from conception to natural death. Let this be the year in which the scourge that is abortion disappears from our nation.
The technology that is the sonogram is now 40 years old. For 40 years, parents have been able to see the image of their unborn child inside the mother ‘s womb; people can see that it is not just a collection of cell growth, but an actual living child.
Let 2017 be the most pro-life year that we have ever had as a nation. It can start quite simply with us, no matter what age or sex or state in life we find ourselves, recognizing the image and likeness of Christ in every single person whom we encounter. May Our Lady of Guadalupe give strength and courage toward the building up of a culture of life.
