Letters to the Editor

A Double Standard

Dear Editor: I have to respond to Rita Murphy’s letter (Nov. 26). She is appalled that Trump was elected. Why is it that in 2008 and 2012 when Obama was elected twice, everything was fine. We did not loot stores, burn cars, block roads or try to prevent shoppers from shopping. We peacefully accepted a legitimate win for Obama.

Now some claim that the electoral college is invalid because Hillary won the popular vote. She won that vote because the electoral vote system allows small states to have meaningful participation in the process. Trump could have campaigned in New York and California…. easily winning the popular vote and losing the electoral college.

The stock market is over 19,000…. the economy will be growing… and families in minority communities will be buying new lunch boxes for Christmas because they will be going back to work. Thank God we have a president who will actually represent the minority communities.
