A Catholic Solution

Dear Editor: The public has been appalled by the fact that just seven African American students were admitted to Stuyvesant High School. A partial solution: Catholic high schools.

A number of Catholic high schools in New York have large numbers of African American and other students from various ethnic and racial backgrounds. And they are receiving a first-rate education and succeeding. Their graduates are going to places like Wesleyan, Cornell, Georgetown, Boston College, etc.

Just go online and examine the curriculum of places like Bishop Loughlin and St. Edmund’s. You will find STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Advanced Placement courses in Calculus, the Sciences and History.

Our politicians (Democrat) profess to care about African American, Latino and other students of color. They continually block constitutionally sanctioned means like vouchers and educational tax credits and expanding mandated service funds from assisting these schools.

President Trump, whom many of your readers dislike, has proposed a federal education tax credit idea. They should think about the exclusion of students of color from Stuyvesant and the plight of good Catholic schools before they ritualistically vote Democrat.
